Detailed itinerary
Morning Departure from Marrakech
Your day begins with an early pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
Most tours depart between 7:30 and 8:00 AM.
How the morning unfolds:
Leaving Marrakech, the road begins to climb into the High Atlas Mountains. The journey takes you through winding roads, mountain passes, and traditional Berber villages. The scenery is constantly changing, offering incredible views at every turn.
After around 2.5 to 3 hours, you reach the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass, the highest mountain road in Morocco.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains
The journey through the Atlas is one of the highlights of the trip.
What you will experience:
- panoramic mountain views
- traditional Berber villages on the hillsides
- scenic stops for photos
- small roadside markets and local life
How the experience unfolds:
The road offers many opportunities to stop and enjoy the views. The landscapes are dramatic, with changing colors and textures as you move through the mountains.

Arrival at Ait Ben Haddou
After crossing the Atlas Mountains, you arrive at Ait Ben Haddou.
What you will discover:
- a traditional fortified village (ksar) made of mud-brick
- narrow alleys and ancient houses
- panoramic views from the top of the hill
- filming locations from movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones
How the experience unfolds:
You will walk through the village, crossing a small river (often by stepping stones or a bridge) and entering the ancient ksar. The climb to the top is gentle and offers incredible views over the surrounding desert landscape.

Lunch with a View
After exploring Ait Ben Haddou, you will have time to enjoy lunch.
What to expect:
Local restaurants offer terraces with views of the kasbah and surrounding valley.
Typical dishes include:
- Moroccan tajine
- grilled meats
- couscous
- fresh salads
This is a perfect moment to relax and take in the scenery.

Afternoon Return to Marrakech
After lunch and some free time, the journey back to Marrakech begins.
The drive follows the same mountain route, offering different perspectives as the light changes in the afternoon. The Atlas Mountains look especially beautiful in the late-day sun.
You will arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, usually around 6:30 – 7:30 PM.
