Best Time to Visit Morocco: A Local Guide for Planning Your Trip

Morocco is not the same everywhere. You can be walking through the busy streets of Marrakech, crossing snowy mountains, relaxing by the Atlantic Ocean or watching the sunset over the Sahara dunes — all in the same country.

That is why choosing the right season can make a big difference.

For most travelers, the best time to visit Morocco is spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November. During these months, the weather is usually warm, comfortable and perfect for exploring.

You can enjoy the cities without too much heat, visit the desert more comfortably and travel through the mountains with beautiful views along the way.

Spring is one of the most beautiful times to travel around Morocco.

From March to May, the weather becomes warmer, the landscapes are greener and the days are long enough to enjoy full travel days without feeling exhausted by the heat.
This is a lovely season for walking through the medinas, taking photos, visiting valleys in the Atlas Mountains and spending a night in the Sahara Desert.

Spring is perfect for you if you want: beautiful landscapes, comfortable weather and a mix of cities, mountains and desert.

Summer in Morocco can be intense.

July and August are very hot in cities like Marrakech and Fes, and also in the desert. If you do not enjoy high temperatures, this may not be the best season for long sightseeing days or a Sahara tour.

But summer can still be a good time to visit if you plan the trip carefully.
The coast is usually more comfortable, especially places like: Essaouira, Agadir, Rabat, Tangier and Asilah.
These destinations have a more relaxed atmosphere and are better for travelers who want sea, fresh air and slower days.

If you visit Morocco in summer, my advice is simple: start early, rest during the hottest hours and enjoy the evenings. Moroccan cities become much more pleasant after sunset.

Autumn is one of the best seasons to visit Morocco.

From September to November, the heat becomes softer and travel feels easier again. The desert is more comfortable, the cities are pleasant, and it is a great time for cultural tours.
Autumn is ideal if you want: a Sahara Desert tour, comfortable city visits, good weather for photography.

Winter in Morocco can surprise many travelers.

From December to February, the days can be sunny and pleasant, especially in Marrakech and southern Morocco. But mornings and evenings can be cold, particularly in the mountains and the desert.
In the Sahara, you may enjoy warm sunlight during the day, but nights in the camp can be very cold. In the High Atlas Mountains, snow is possible in winter.
Winter is a good time to visit Morocco if you want: fewer crowds, lower-season atmosphere, sunny days in Marrakech and beautiful photography.

Just remember to bring layers. You may need sunglasses at midday and a warm jacket at night.
